1041326) Barite with Malachite - Shangulowé Mine, Kambove, Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre) Size: 7.0 x 5.3 x 4.5 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 400 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
In the late 1990's there was a sizeable find of the barite with malachite inclusion specimens. They were readily available for a couple of years, and then sort of disappeared from the market. The example shown here is excellent, with prismatic lustrous translucent green barite crystals to 2.5 cm in height set nicely upon a 7.0 x 5.3 x 4.5 cm matrix with green botryoidal malachite. The barite crystals are mostly free-standing and complete all around. There is no damage. The quality is very high for one of these. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. 1044367) Beryl - Aletai Prefecture, Yili Hasake Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, China Size: 5.2 x 1.4 x 1.3 cm (miniature) Price: $ 450 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
More than 70% of China's aquamarine jewellery is manufactured in this region of China. Very few good crystals are currently available on the collector market as almost every good stone, whether a good crystal or not, is used for cutting. The double terminated crystal shown here is very good. Partly gemmy and with a pleasant blue color, the crystal measures 5.2 x 1.4 x 1.3 cm in size. Microscopic chipping is present along the termination edges, the extent of this visible in the photos. Weighs 19 grams. Completely crystallized all around and in excellent condition. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Ref: Liu, Fine Minerals of China (2006), pages 308-309. 1044357) Beryl - Coronel Murta, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil Size: 3.8 x 3.2 x 3.2 cm (miniature) Price: $ 2800 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
A very unusual and attractive gem crystal specimen! The specimen consists of a squat single termination heliodor crystal measuring 3.8 x 3.2 x 3.2 cm in size. There are two different generations of growth present. The bottom part of the crystal is near colorless and opaque; there are natural fractures in this part but the piece is very stable. The crystal is then topped off with a "cap" of gem naturally etched yellow heliodor beryl. Complete all around 360 degrees and free of damage. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. 1041428) Calcite - Nikolaevskiy Mine, Nikolaevskoe Pb-Zn-Ag deposit, Dal'negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Far-Eastern Region, Russia Size: 8.6 x 6.0 x 5.3 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 550 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
Beautiful glassy colorless gemmy transparent calcite crystals forming a 8.6 x 6.0 x 5.3 cm cluster without matrix. Very neat crystallography on this one with a first generation scalenohedral calcite crystal, this studded by a later generation rhombohedral crystal, with the first generation crystal termination coming through the later rhombohedral crystal. Complete all around; I can find no points of attachment. I can find very tiny chipping along one crystal edge, this only seen by my eyes with a 10x loupe. I think that overall this is in excellent condition damage-wise. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Ref: The Mineralogical Record (2001): 32: 3; World of Stones 4/94. 1044607) Calcite on Fluorite - Denton mine, Harris Creek Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA Size: 7.8 x 5.8 x 4.7 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 695 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
An excellent small cabinet sized combination piece from this noted mine! A deep glassy amber colored near transparent partly gemmy calcite crystal measuring 2.9 cm across is perched wonderfully upon a deep purple crystallized fluorite matrix. With a 10x loupe I can find two very tiny and minor bruises upon the calcite crystal at upper left. Overall I think this in very good condition damage-wise; the piece sits perfectly for display. Measures 7.8 x 5.8 x 4.7 cm in size overall. The crystal shows excellent twinning planes. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Lloyd Tate Collection
Exceptional for the species from Michigan, this shows pale blue large prismatic opaque semi-lustrous terminated celestine crystals to 7.0 cm in length coming aesthetically off a limestone matrix. Complete all around; there are two areas that appear to be slight blemishes, but after close examination my opinion is that these are not damaged areas as I can see crystal faces within. Overall for one of these large celestine specimens, this is in excellent condition. Measures 8.3 x 8.0 x 6.0 cm in size overall. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Lloyd Tate Collection
An excellent aesthetic grouping of dark green lustrous dravite crystals, some measuring to 2.8 cm in length. The crystals grade from blocky sharp crystals into more fibrous parallel crystals. No damage and complete all around. Sparkling colorless crystals of dolomite are scattered throughout. Measures 6.9 x 5.1 x 3.6 cm in size overall. The specimen is figured in the book F. John Barlow Mineral Collection (1996) on page 114. In the text it is noted that Mr. Barlow acquired the specimen was originally in the collection of noted Brazilian dealer Carlos Barbosa and was acquired through Eric Asselborn. A 6.6 x 5.9 x 1.4 cm matrix, the top covered almost completely by sparkling lustrous blocky carmel colored wulfenite crystals measuring to 1.2 cm on edge.
